Test rápido para Infecciones Respiratorias Virales

FDA Approves Rapid Test for 12 Different Respiratory Viral Infections
The FDA has approved a nucleic acid test that simultaneously checks for 12 different respiratory viruses.

The test, conducted on throat secretions, is called the xTAG Respiratory Viral Panel and is made by Luminex Molecular Diagnostics. The FDA said it is the first to differentiate influenza A subtypes H1 and H3. It is also the first test to detect the recently identified virus metapneumovirus.

In addition, xTAG can detect:
influenza B;
respiratory syncytial virus subtypes A and B;
parainfluenza 1, 2, and 3;
rhinovirus;
adenovirus.

The manufacturer claims that together these viruses account for more than 85% of respiratory viral infections. The FDA warns that a positive result does not necessarily rule out other sources of infection.
